I started by developing a survey to track my daily wellbeing across 80+ metrics. Every day for 5 months I completed this survey to collect multiple categories of quantitative and qualitative measures, including:
Overall mood
7 domains of overall wellbeing (physical, emotional, relational, etc.)
10 sub-domains for each (physical: sleep, nutrition, pain, energy, etc.)
Assorted other quantitative metrics
Open-ended journal entry
Starting around week 2 of the survey, I had enough data to begin searching for unexpected patterns and correlations in my states of wellbeing. Could relationships be affecting my energy? Could sleep be affecting my productivity? The more data we collect, the more we’ll find out. When I notice strange things or have questions, this is what I know I should explore visually.
I began seeking visually engaging ways to interpret and express my measurements
My next question was how to chart my shifting patterns so that I can spot the trends visually. This process required developing visual systems with a lot of notes so I could keep track of my own secret visual language being used in each piece.
The artworks, when shared, were designed to be cryptic. The final steps of removing guidelines and measurements assure that I alone know what each row, column, line, and slice represents

Coursework in designing brand identity
Anderson University Class of 2016
A logo based on the mathematical structures of our universe
Space Club originated in the Art + Design department at Anderson University with a goal of spreading scientific curiosity to creative audiences. At first, it was simply an excuse to watch documentaries and mind-bending movies on the art studio projectors. It wasn’t long before we gained a large in-person audience, and realized the power of science to inspire our creative classmates. Throughout college, our efforts expanded into a social media network with a continual feed of awe-provoking ideas.
